[sticky entry] Sticky: Friends Only

Dec. 30th, 2015 03:47 pm
jadedlioness: (Daisies)

Before adding me as a friend I ask people to do three things:

1) Please know me from somewhere online - if you know me offline I may add you as a friend, but that is a very slim chance. It's nothing personal I just use this journal as my safe haven, my place to talk about all aspects of my life and it is hard to do that while worrying that people may take offence to something I say or something else equally not fun.

2) Please take a moment to learn about me by reading this LJ entry.

3) Lastly, please read the rest of the information in this entry.
About my journal

I use this journal to post about anything I want to write about. This can be anything I come across in life  and I do discuss personal problems and events. I don't use lj-cut unless it's for images, quizzes etc. My entries are long, personal and I talk about the illnesses I suffer from. This includes depression, so if you have no real understanding of depression or hate reading depressing posts please don't add me.  My journal is about life, and all aspects of life, that includes the good, the bad, and the pissed off moments. In other words... not every entry is full of pain or depression, and I am capable of being a happy person.

I don't expect people to comment on every entry, and likewise I don't comment every time. But I do read every entry, and so I would appreciate the same in return. Just interact with me, that's all I ask :)
Meeting new people

Please do not be shy about adding me, I like meeting new people, but I do find it hard to talk to people if I don't have anything in common with them. So have some of the same interests, be interested in some of the same fandoms, that sort of thing.

Comment to be added - Please actually comment! Don't be shy, I won't bite. I won't add someone just because they add me. As said above, interact with me and the first step of that is commenting to be added. Just say hello, say why you've added me and anything else you want to say. Just give me something, ok? :)

Be over 16 - Pretty simple. The reason? I'm 27 and I don't really have much in common with people under 16 any more. I'm having a hard enough time connecting with the 18 year olds at university! This doesn't mean my posts are not child friendly.

Have interests in common - Only needs to be a few. I would also prefer people that are like minded. So if you're offended by homosexuality, Paganism, pre-marital sex, profanity or a non-Christian view point, it would probably be best if you don't add me.

Have actual content in your LJ - You don't have to have amazingly indepth journal entries but I have no interest in only reading your fanfic or quizzes that you have completed. I like to be able to have something to read, and a few lines for entries all the time doesn't do that either.

I hate going on hiatus so soon after coming back from the last one, however, this one is for an important reason – my dissertation/thesis. This should have been done and dusted a year ago, but my ongoing health issues and eventual (still pending /sigh) diagnosis of ME/CFS meant that I had to continue to struggle along with it at snail’s pace. I’ve now come to the end of the line, time has run out and I need to get this done for my Masters and for my own sanity. The worst part is that I LOVED my Masters, I LOVE my dissertation topic and I am just so beyond frustrated with how slow my progress has been. As a student with two degrees and most of a Masters behind me, I’m no stranger to having written some assignments in the last few days and I know I can belt out 1-2k words in a day without any problems. Thanks to the flu, the following post-viral fatigue and CFS I feel like I am slogging through quicksand even writing this blog post. If you’ve never written a dissertation/thesis, let me tell you, it is NOT easy. It is not just a bigger/longer essay with more words. And I am doing it with such a massive handicap that it feels near impossible.

I refuse to give in though. I have come this far, and while I have to now live my life differently, I am not going to let my health conditions rule my life. I’ve spoken about mindfulness a few times now, and part of it is the idea of living with our bodies, with our pain. I keep seeing things online about people with chronic pain and CFS, and how much control over their lives they have had to surrender. While I love blogging, and want to develop this blog more, I want a career. I want to be a librarian. I don’t want to have to carry around anti-bacterial gel and use it every time I touch anything, worried about every single germ I could catch. I want to be able to go out, visit places, stop for coffee with a friend. And one step in that road is proving to myself that I can do this, that I don’t need further extensions (if I can even get one) on my dissertation. I also need this chapter of my life done, put away and not hanging over me while I continue to recover and adjust to this new life of mine.

It’s taken me several days to even complete this post, and honestly, things aren’t looking bright. I am gradually doubling the amount of work I get done each day and it’s just not fast enough. Hopefully I can still make the final deadline, however, I know this first draft is going to take me a few extra days. So please cross your fingers for me, send energy my way (if you have any to spare!) and hope that I can push through this fatigue to get this done!

Every Tuesday is #TransmogTuesday and I’ll be posting with a new creation. My main is a discipline priest called Kaelea, so I do tend to edge towards cloth transmogs more than anything else. The aim of this project is to push my own boundaries, to get creative and work on some themes and ideas I’d normally not consider. That means I’m open to suggestions! Themes, colours, a transmog set around a particular item? Let me know 🙂

You can see my pre-existing work over at Wowhead where I’ll also be uploaded any and all sets.

This Weeks Set

Luminance of the Spirebreaker

It’s the final week of the Tomb of Sargeras mini-theme and it was a no-brainer for me to choose the monk-look alike leather chest piece since it’s one of my favourite tiers! I also loved the contrasting colours of item and the challenge of putting a set together to match the vibrant pale yellow. The result is a leather set that is mostly yellow and gold, however, has some purple thrown in as well. The feet item are a lot darker and a little off hue, however, I liked the look of a darker pair of boots at the bottom. No back because the chest piece is way too pretty to cover with a cloak, and no weapons because I may have forgotten them…. Anyway! Check out the full set here – on wowhead  – and give it a wee vote if you like it!

What did you think of the mini-theme around the new raid? Is that something you’d like to see with new content? Or just like the idea of a couple of sets that link together in a theme? Let me know in the comments! 🙂 <31

Each month I will be interviewing someone from the online world. They could be someone creative, quirky, geeky or a fellow spoonie. I’m really not picky; the whole point of this is to open up dialogue, share with the world and if you wish, bring awareness to your work or a cause. Interviews are open to anyone who wishes to take part so if you’re interested in volunteering please check out the Interview information page.

This month Llinos has volunteered to talk to us about her creative hobbies which include art and crochet!

The Interview

Hi …. please tell us a bit about yourself!

Hello there!  My name’s Llinos, I’m a Welsh girl living in Cardiff, UK, with my boyfriend, Oliver, and my guinea pig, Maggie.  I turned 30 earlier this year.  I’m a blogger and I love to be creative through painting, crochet and papercraft.

How did you get into your creative hobbies?

At school, I was told I wasn’t good at art, so I turned away from it because I thought I didn’t have any kind of creative talent, beyond my love of writing.  However, as an adult I felt a pull towards exploring new creative hobbies and I dabbled in a few things, like candle making and soap making.  When I saw lots of pretty crocheted items online, I knew I had to learn it.  I also began to indulge my love of stationery, and suddenly I was scrapbooking and penpalling!

How many years have you been doing it?

It’s a couple of years now since I really got into crochet and papercraft. Now I can’t imagine my life without it!

What does your crochet and art mean to you?

It means a lot to me that I can express myself in a creative way.  On a bad day, all I want to do is curl up with a project and I feel like myself again.

What was the first time you realised that was what you wanted to do?

I knew I had to learn to crochet because I felt like I couldn’t be happy unless I knew how to create all of these pretty blankets and cushions I saw on Pinterest and Ravelry.

What is your proudest moment?

When I crocheted a unicorn and all of my family and friends loved it.  She’s now one of my prized possessions.

What was the first artwork you ever sold?

I sold a greeting card of a print of a watercolour painting of a fox.  I should make some more!

What are your goals for the future? What do you hope to achieve?

I try to live in the here and now rather than worrying about the future.  I’d love to have a stationery line though!

What was the best advice you were ever given?

To do what you love.  Simple, yet it often gets left by the wayside and life takes over instead.  I try to remember it often.

Any advice for others wanting to get into your hobbies?

Stick with it!  Don’t think that what you produce isn’t good enough.  It’s all progress and part of the journey.  If you’re struggling alone, trying to learn a new skill, consider taking a class in the local community.  That’s what got me to understand crochet, after struggling to read patterns and follow videos.

Now for some random questions…

If you were the god/goddess of anything, what would it be?

Ooh this is a great question!  I would be the goddess of literature.  As much as I love being creative, I am passionate about books.

What would your animal form be?

Something quiet and thoughtful, maybe a badger.

Do you have any fun quirks?

I definitely have some quirks, whether they’re fun or not is something you’d have to ask those around me!  When I’m concentrating, I stick out my tongue.  I’ve always done it, ever since I was a child.  I also have quite a loud, distinctive laugh!

Do you collect anything?

Yes; any items of clothing, stationery or crockery with owls on them!  I have a beautiful owl moneybox.

And finally; time for a shameless plug:

Tomb of Frozen Mist

Time to get back into things now that the dreaded flu is in retreat and I’m carrying on my Tomb of Sargeras run with a mail set based around the LFR chest piece item. It’s the Shaman tier recolour, and like my previous Tomb sets it is not class specific so it can be worn by hunters too. No weapons for this week, so if you try this outfit out for size let me know what weapons you choose to accompany it! Full set: is here.

Well, technically it’s Flu 3. That’s the amount of times I’ve had flu in my life and each time it’s left a lasting memory of the god awful feeling of death. I don’t know why flu always hits me so hard. The first time was when I was a teenager and I ended up missing the last few weeks of school right before summer, the second time was 2 years ago and was the trigger for chronic fatigue syndrome. Every time it takes 2 weeks minimum for me to get back to normal, and every time I curse the idiot that went out in public while contagious, thank the flu vaccine for covering me most of the time and listen to my fiancé cursing me when he contracts it from me. We’re both in terrible rough shape with it this time around; me with my 6 diagnosed health conditions and pending diagnosis (yes, still pending, don’t ask) of chronic fatigue syndrome and him with a litany of health problems that include gall stones, chronic pain and a newly discovered rare and super serious (as in the deadly kind) heart condition.

I’ve pretty much been his carer 24/7 since December, and now with us both down with flu it’s becoming even more difficult to keep up with everything. So I’m grudgingly suspending blogging for at least a week. In light of everything, blogging isn’t really important, however, it’s been a life line to my sanity. Therefore, I don’t want to stop it or put it on hold indefinitely. Since my CFS started a year and a half ago I’ve been gradually fighting to keep going, and a lot of stuff has been put on hold. I’m now officially nearing my final deadline for my dissertation, and to be honest, I want it done. I want it off my conscience, off my plate and I want to say ‘hey I can still do this!’. I’ll be back, and in the mean time, you can hear my flu-like woes and rants on twitter @Justgeekingby 🙂 Healing thoughts and energy are readily accepted, as is chocolate and ice cream (sore throat and fever, it’s allowed :P).1

Channelling Mera

This week the set ended up being a bit of a cosplay/tribute to Mera from the DC universe without even trying. There’s just something about the colours and the head piece, and voilà, it’s mera-esque. Well at least it is to me. Either way, it’s number two in my Tomb of Sargeras mini-theme. Last week we had plate, this week it is cloth. All items are non-class specific and the main focus is the LFR version of item . You can view the full set on Wowhead: Channelling Mera.

Pearl is a gorgeous one to style because it is open to so many different shades; pearls aren’t always white! They can be cream, beige, pink, blue, lavender and even darker shades of grey, blue and lavender. Essentially, they’re the dusty hues of these colours. So look for dusty pink, dusty blue and dusty lavender to pop some colour in. Due to the multi-tonal nature of pearls you can mix and match, and I’ve found a lot of great floral and patterned tops that use these colours.

The Birthstone series will be exploring the world of birth stones and creating a pinterest mood board filled with style ideas related to that month’s birthstone and related colours. There will be women’s fashion, jewellery, make up, accessories, colour palettes and some home decor items thrown in too. This series will be posted on the third or fourth Saturday of every month.

You will quite often find pearl listed as bridal jewellery, especially on Etsy; don’t be put off! Pearls can be worn all year round and for all occasions!

I hope you’ve found something you like in this post, and if not there’s plenty more on the pinterest board! I’ll be adding a few more things to the board from time to time so don’t forget to follow it. If you have something you think I should add, especially if it’s something you’ve created let me know!

Radiance of the Tomb

As we’ve got a new raid coming out today (and tomorrow for EU), I figured that it would be a good idea to try and whip up some sets using the new gear. So for the next few weeks I’m going to take the non-class specific chest piece for each armour type and put a set together. I’m starting with plate and purposely choosing the lowest version, LFR, so people of all levels can get their hands on this set. I really like this set; it’s full of blazing fire, making your character ready to kick some ass in the Tomb of Sargeras! The sword item is a little off colour, but it just looked so damn awesome that I shrugged it off and kept it 😀 You can view the full set on wowhead as usual – set –  if you like it please rate it!

If you didn’t get a chance to check out my WoW theme week, all post links can be found in the schedule post!

I was supposed to be rounding off the week of World of Warcraft on a more serious note with ‘Why I always report harassment in Games & why you should too’ and while I do still intend to write that post, now doesn’t seem the right time. I’ve been celebrating a game I love, and dipping into the darker and more childish side of trolls and harassment just doesn’t have the same vibe. So instead I’m joining my final post with Sharing Saturday, and sharing with you my favourite World of Warcraft art. This includes a variety of sources; official art, fan art, trading card art and some art from Blizzard’s online card game Hearthstone.

I’ve done several World of Warcraft themed Sharing Saturdays before that might also interest you!

Rounding off my top 10 favourites of World of Warcraft is questlines! For a game to have meaning and to keep me coming back it’s important that the content is fresh, original and catches my attention. Not to mention gives me a giggle from time to time! World of Warcraft continues to do that with each new expansion and so without further ado, join me on a trip down memory lane as I tell you my favourite questlines.

World of Warcraft questline - Fiona's Caravan

Fiona’s Caravan

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

The novelty of riding around in the caravan was something new, but it was the squabbling between Tarenar and Gidwin that I loved. They are fighting over Fiona’s attention when Gidwin decides to go do something to prove he’s the better guy for her; and lands himself in a heap of trouble. In true bromance style Tarenar realises he’s been gone a while and goes and saves him. From that moment the two become best friends, still squabbling but they’re now comrades in arms.

World of Warcraft questline - The Day Deathwing Came

The Day Deathwing Came

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

C’mon, how could this NOT be on this list? Any quest that lets you smack Deathwing in the face – especially after he’s been flying around killing everyone at random – is a win in my book. You get told three stories from a gnome, dwarf and orc who each have a very different interpretation on what happened when Deathwing rose and started the Cataclysm. The dwarf goes first and gives you an epic tale of how he punched Deathwing on the nose.  The gnome then claims to tell you the real story revealing that he grew to a massive size and grabbed him and threw him across an ocean. Finally the orc tells you what really happened and spins a tale about a motorcycle, and saving babes. The best bit though is the comments each of them give while the other is telling the story.

World of Warcraft questline - The Winds of Loch Modan

The Winds of Loch Modan

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

Everytime a gnome or a goblin gives me a quest to ‘try’ something, especially a new invention, I get that sinking feeling. This I realise started with this quest; a gnome decides to invent a turbo powered mechanostrider I can’t remember where you end up, but I’m pretty sure it’s not where you started 😛

World of Warcraft questline -Maxmillian of Northshire

Maximillian of Northshire

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.4

Oh Maximillian, there really is no one quite as utterly special as you in WoW. The utter ridiculousness of this character, and how far Blizzard went with the damsel in distress/rescue by dragonslaying hero is fantastic. None of the damsels Maximillian saves are in the least bit of trouble – in fact, one he saves from their own pet /facelpalm. And of course, the “dragons”. Fabulous, silly and so pointless but one of the best quest lines in the game.1

World of Warcraft questline - Gnomebliteration

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

I’ve never been a bog fan of gnomes. There, I said it. Since this quest in Cataclysm they have grown on me, however, at this point I really didn’t like them. They were too cute, squeaky and annoyingly perky. So when a quest turned up to turn into a giant ball of fire and roll over evil crazy gnomes and obliterate them from existence, I was right there to sign up and do my duty! I may have cackled manically while doing it, but I saved the world from evil gnomes. That’s what’s important 😉

World of Warcraft questline - Tirion Fordring

Tirion Fordring

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

Before Tirion beca,me Highlord of the Argent Crusade he was a lonely old man, living in solitude and battling the scourge alone in Eastern Plaguelands. This storyline is no longer available, but it tells you his history and what happened to him after he saved an orc from his fellow humans. Those were the days when orcs were seen as the worst scum of Azeroth, after invading and killing thousands of humans. Tirion was never a murderer though, and an honorable man who was saved by an orc and returned the favour by keeping his existence a secret. When found out he was stripped of his title, and lost his family. His son fell in with the Scarlet Crusade, becoming their Highlord eventually. The questline with Tirion culminates in his showdown with his son, in which he ends up killing him and vowing to fight to rid the world of evil. This is where Tirion’s life begins a new, he joins up with the Argent Dawn and the rest is history. None of that would be possible if it wasn’t for this quest line, and us helping him realise that he needed to lay the past to rest and return to the fight. You can read more about Tirion on Wowpedia ((Screenshot courtesy of Wowhead.))

World of Warcraft questline - Abercrombie

Abercrombie’s Quests

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

So, I said the flying mechanostrider made me wary of quest giving inventors. Well, Abercrombie is the one who first made me realise, wait a moment, quest givers can be evil!!!! :O Yep, how naive we all were back in vanilla. Now it’s like ‘ok, this sounds iffy, this guy is totally evil’. However, back when we were just little humans wondering around Duskwood, we still believed that we were great big heroes saving the world. Then we did this quest line and our rose tinted glasses didn’t just come off, they were smashed to tiny weeny pieces. Thanks Blizzard! Basically you’re helping this old hermit by running errands, collecting stuff around town for him and it seems so innocent. Until the final quest when he sends you off to the Mayor of the local village and it pretty much says ‘HAHA LOL. PWNED’. Yep, you just armed a crazy ass necromancer with everything he needed to put together a terrifying elite giant undead abombination called Stitches. At this early stage of the game elites were pretty damn hard and Stitches and another one in Duskwood would royally kick your ass if you got caught by them. He was also known for wiping out the entire village of NPCs because no one was really high enough level to stop him. Oh those were the days… and now we look fondly at the pet version of Stitches and laugh, or cry.2

World of Warcraft questline - Legion Priest Class Mount

Priest Class Mount

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

From the old, to the very new. As well as being one of my favourite mounts, the new priest class mount quest was super cool and so much fun. I’m going to stick the details under a spoiler warning so no one gets spoiled:

Read more about the questline!

You get a message that the Speaker, aka King Magni Bronzebeard, needs to talk to you urgently. You end up in a sunken vault that the world spirit of Azeroth has led you to via Magni. Along for the ride is his brother and world renowned explorer Brann, and your Master Artificer Betild Deepanvil. The sunken vault is a vault left by the Titans and it’s the dialogue between the three dwarves that make it so great. Brann has had many experiences, some not so pleasant, with Titan technology and hidden vaults. He is none to thrilled to find himself in one again, and is warning the others to watch out. Everything seems to be going fine until the titan constructs overseeing the vault detect void energies. Oh dear… Brann is none too surprised when everything goes to hell and you have to defeat the constructs to survive. The witty comments and banner between the two Bronzebeard boys and Betild is so funny, and I really hope these three pair up for more adventures in the future!

The whole idea of the Lightsworn Seekers is also epic. They’re titan created beings that have been locked away to protect them from the void, and these are the last ones that exist. The vault security is beginning to fade and someone, you, needs to take responsibility of these beautiful creatures. I like the fact that they wrote in the void being detected and thus being responsible for the purple shadow version of the mount for shadow priests.

World of Warcraft questline - Tarcegosa's Staff

Tarecgosa’s Staff

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

There’s only ever been one legendary that I wanted at the time, which I unfortunately didn’t get and I’m still a tad bitter about. That’s a long story, but when Tarecgosa’s staff came around I wasn’t in line to get it as I didn’t play a dps caster. I did make a light-hearted argument for how a Discipline Priest would benefit from it, however, I was happy to wait until it was soloable in a later expansion. What I loved about it was the whole quest line. Dragons! More importantly the decimated blue dragon flight who had no leader since the death of Malygos at our hands. I really enjoyed the quest line, except for the end 🙁 I suppose though that the tragic ending did make the legendary that much more special to have because it wasn’t just a weapon, it was a spirit and a legacy.

Lament of the Highborne

View the questline on Wowhead: Wowhead.

And finally, a video for you! This little quest starts with a ring that you pick up and hand in to the banshee queen, Sylvanas. She then sings the most beautiful song called the Lament of the Highborne. It’s sung in her native language, but the words translated are as emotional as the song itself. The necklace was given to her by her little sister Alleria, whom Sylvanas has not seen since her death and subsequent undeath at the hands of the Lich King. It shows a softer side to the dark warrior who is often seen as bitter and harsh, showing players the heartache that she has felt in her tragic life. They translated words under the spoiler tag if you wish to read them 🙂

Translation of the lyrics

By the light, by the light of the sun

Children of the blood

Our enemies are breaking through

Children of the blood

By the light

Failing children of the blood

They are breaking through

O’ children of the blood

By the light of the sun

Failing children of the blood

They are breaking through

O’ children of the blood

By the light of the sun

The sun

One thing I noticed when putting this post together was that there is a big difference for me between epic quests and epic moments. There have been a lot of epic moments, often told through amazing cinematic cut scenes, that are just moments. The quest line leading up to them is interesting, just not quite as meaningful or as epic as the ones listed here.

How about your experience in World of Warcraft and other games? Are there quests that you can remember from the start of your game play? Or do you tend to run through quests on autopilot? Let me know in the comments!

There are two things that always draw me back to World of Warcraft and that is the storylines (coming tomorrow!) and the gorgeous and interesting locations. The locations over the years have changed, grown and become so much more impressive and yet even the original ones still have a timeless beauty for me. There’s always at least one zone per expansion which I lose myself in, and could take screenshots of for hours and hours. Currently, it’s Suramar and most of them are on this list too! Read on to learn about my top 10!

World of Warcraft: Ashenvale

I think this was probably my very first zone obsession/love in the game. My first character was a night elf druid and I just fell in love with the dramatic and graceful scenes of forest, dark green and purple.

World of Warcraft: Crystalsong Forest

Crystalsong Forest

Wrath of the Lich King

The much under-used, and occasionally blinding zone beneath the floating city of Dalaran when it was in Northrend, Crystong Forest was simply stunning. It was so many different shades of purple all in one place! I recently did the balloon micro-holiday tours and got some fantastic screenshots of the area.

World of Warcraft: The Dreamgrove

The Dreamgrove

The entire Dreamgrove, the Druid Class Hall, is a night elf and druid heaven. It is absolutely gorgeous and then I found THIS. A big moonkin teaching little baby moonkins! Oh my goodness, I sat there watching them for so long! There’s so many awesome little fun things in each order hall, and the Dreamgrove is massive – and ok, you might get a bit lost from time to time. But at least your surrounded by pretty stuff, right? 😉

World of Warcraft: Eversong Woods

Eversong Woods

The Burning Crusade

The colours, the autumn hues and the extraordinary elf style and I fell in love with this place. It’s the one time I wish I played a horde more so that I could visit it more often! There’s something so wonderfully regal and historical about Eversong Woods, especially in the places untouched by scourge and it makes the darker places much harder to see.

World of Warcraft: Mount Hyjal

Mount Hyjal

Not only is this area important for lore, the zone itself is gorgeous and filled with lots of Druid stuff! We learned so much about the druids and the Ancients from this zone, and the regrown tree Nordrassil is a poignant and stunning part of the landscape.

World of Warcraft: Nagrand

The Burning Crusade

Nagrand is all about the skies. I have so many screenshot of the skies at night, daytime, and sunset. More of the sky than anything else, and is it any wonder? It’s incredible!

World of Warcraft: Suramar

Oh Suramar, you have so many hidden wonders like this; is it any wonder that I can’t visit you without taking a screenshot? You’re my biggest time waster, and yet I can’t stop myself. Blizzard really upped their game with their designs in Legion, and Suramar leaves me wordless at times. It’s the hub of ancient elf architecture and it feels like the designers went all out. This is probably my favourite zone of all.

World of Warcraft: Vale of Eternal Blossoms

The Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Mists of Pandaria

Mists of Pandaria had a very distinct oriental style, and what I liked about it was that they did it right. Just things like the style of buildings and gates, as well as the little things like the table settings and small kettles you’d find around. It was an expansion that was dredged in oriental cultures and mythology, and I feel that people didn’t appreciate it at all because it was so alien to them. My dad is very into Japanese culture, and so I’d spot things in the storylines or around the zones that would remind me of things he’d told me about. The Vale of Eternal Blossoms is a glorious splash of colour, kept hidden and locked away for thousands of years and you can see why. I almost wept when Garrosh unleashed the sha on it and destroyed it, tainting this celestial place forever 🙁

World of Warcraft: Val 'Sharah

Another druid and night elf zone (see a pattern here? 😉 ), Val’Sharah is nature personified. It is glorious and lush forests filled with detailed plants and creatures. It truly is magical and it’s heartbreaking to see the nightmare taking over, spreading further and further. Not to mention the heartbreaking events of some of the storylines. The beauty is juxtaposed against the darkness and it has a staggering effect.

World of Warcraft: Vortex Pinnacle

Vortex Pinnacle / Throne of the Four Winds

This isn’t a zone, but rather a raid and dungeon instance in the zone of Uldum. It is a heavenly floating area filled with opalescent jewels and hues alongside white marble. It’s breathtaking and I wish it wasn’t confined just to the instances. A whole city or zone would be amazing and possibly rival my love for Suramar.

How about you; what are your favourites? Do you find yourself attracted to a particular style or feature? I have a thing for nature, and elvish architecture. Let me know in the comments!

If there’s something pretty and cute to collect in World of Warcraft then I probably have it, so unsurprisingly I collect mounts! I have always used an addon, and now the in game feature, to randomise mounts so I get the most from my large collection of 256 mounts. You can view my whole collection over at Warcraft Mounts 🙂

I have always had a mixture of luck with mount drops; for example, I was one of the first to get the Headless Horseman mount on my server, and I got all the Brewfest ones relatively quickly where as it took others years to collect. However, other mounts like the Love Rocket and the Blue Proto Drake still refuse to drop for me. And don’t even get me started on how long it took before Kael’Thas gave up his Swift White Hawkstrider!

Ahem. Well, here is my top 10 mounts. Some I am fortunate enough to own and others I will continue to hunt!

Arcanist's Manasaber Mount

Arcanist’s Mana Saber

Upon her return to The Nighthold, First Arcanist Thalyssra saw to it that adventurers who helped her  liberate Suramar were rewarded with prized mounts from the royal stable.

There’s just so many things about this mount that call to me. It’s exquisitely detailed, it’s so elegant and lets be honest; it’s a purple cat. Two of my favourite things! It also flies, so it has some gorgeous wings that extend from the sides. What i didn’t realise until writing this post is that it also automatically puts you in ‘costume’ (makes you neutral to the bad guys) if you use it in Suramar City. That’s a pretty neat trick!

Grove Warden Mount

  Grove Warden

These magical companions are the wardens of peaceful, primordial groves within the Emerald Dream.

There are just some mounts you see and know you HAVE to have them. This was one of them, but it came with a difficulty rating I wasn’t quite able to meet. I am beyond grateful to ArkzSc2 for boosting me and Chris to get the mount before it became unavailable. The whole WoW community really came together over this mount, doing regular Moose runs and so this represents more than just a mount to me. It’s a fantastic design, and I love knowing that it is a special warden of the Emerald Dream.

Headless Horseman Mount

Headless Horseman’s Mount

Be it into the flood, or into the fire, this one will go where you require.

This mount will always be super special to me because it was back in the days when special mounts dropping for holidays was a really new thing. This might have actually been the first one, I’d have to check for sure, and I was one of the first on my sever to get it. Over the years more and more people got it, but it was a magical feeling flying around Shattrath on this and being one of the few! It also does just look incredibly epic, and the fact that is a horse that flies – again, a first maybe? – just made it extra special.

Llothien Prowler Mount

Llothien Prowler

These sleek foxes can prowl amongst newly-fallen leaves without making a sound, even at this size.

IT’S A FOX MOUNT! I love foxes, and spent many many days farming the red fox kit pet before it got changed to one you could buy with currency /facepalm. So naturally as soon as I saw this I squeed and fangirled shamelessly. I finally managed to get the item drop for it a few weeks back and am now the proud owner of this little beauty!

Llothien Prowler Mount

Invincible Mount

The famous steed of Arthas Menethil, who serves its master in life and in death. Riding him is truly a feat of strength.

While this mount certainly does look epic, and is a gorgeous model, it’s actually the lore behind this horse that captivates me. If you have read the Arthas novel, you’ll know what I mean. It explains the whole origin of Arthas’ mount, how he grew up with the horse after making a very special bond with it. The first thing he did when he became the Lich King was res his faithful steed. Ok, so that part is a little creepy, but it just shows the beautiful bond between a raider and their horse. I’ve yet to add Invincible to my collection though 🙁

Long Forgotten Hippogryph Mount

 Long-Forgotten Hippogryph

You are the only one that remembered.

Honestly, I could do just a list of Hippogryphs. I fought with which one to pick and in the end this one won because it’s purple. Ok it’s slightly pink… I’m going to stick with mauve as a descriptor. It is just gorgeous, and it has a fun and intense way to get it which makes it even more special.

Heavenly Crimson Cloud SerpentHeavenly Crimson Cloud Serpent

Heavenly Crimson Cloud Serpents are considered to be among the noblest of dragons.

Much like the Hippogryphs, these ethereal mounts deserve a whole post to themselves. I don’t think a single one of them is bad, or ugly, and it was a hard choice between this one and Yu’lei, Daughter of Jade. This one just reminds me of a sunset, the way the colours blend and seem to shift as it flies.

Cloudwing Hippogryph

Cloudwing Hippogryph

Moreso than normal hippogryphs, the cloudwings of Azsuna prefer to nest high up in mountain caves far above the cloud line.

Yes, I said one hippogryph… but technically this is a totally different model and it is just gorgeous. They first added this model, a green version, in as a recruit a friend prize and since all my friends already play WoW, it was never going to happen. So I am super happy to have a version that I can actually get! The updated graphics and details are just lovely, and the colouring is beautiful. I much prefer this multi-coloured version to the all colour arcane one.

Ashes of Al'ar

Ashes of Al’ar

Al’ar was the beloved pet of Kael’thas Sunstrider, who often boasted that death would never claim it. Perhaps he was right.

Before we even knew this was a mount, I wanted it to be a mount. I was transfixed watching Al’ar flying around in Tempest Keep, and while this mount remains elusive it is still my number one most wanted mount. One day it will be mine (when I stop slacking and start farming it properly again…) and I can’t wait. When you fly it leaves a trail of ethereal colour in it’s wake which just adds to it’s beauty in my eyes.

High Priest's Lightsworn Seeker

High Priest’s Lightsworn Seeker

Once plentiful, only three seekers remain on Azeroth after generations of battling the corruption of the cosmos.

Last but not least, one of the newest mounts in my collection is the new Priest class mount. I’ve saved this for last, not because it’s my favourite but because I wanted to show you it in all it’s glory – which means extra pictures!

You see, each one changes colour depending on your talent spec. On the left we have silver for Discipline, which is my main spec and I’m quite happy with! I like the second one, gold, for holy but I’ve always been more of a fan of silver than gold. Finally, there’s the purple shadow one on the right. Again, I like purple but it’s just a bit too much for my liking.

So there you have it, my top 10 mounts! Are any of these on your list? Which mounts are proving to be elusive and which one holds special meaning for you? Let me know in the comments <3

Alongside this week’s #TransmogTuesday I wanted to share with you my favourite Raid Tiers. I’ve been raiding since the start of the game, and have seen loads of tiers come and go now. One of the reasons I love transmoging is that it means old raid tiers are no longer useless, or forgotten. Sure, re-grinding them is a pain but it’s so worth it in the end! Here is my favourite raid tier for each class in the game, excluding Demon Hunters because they only have one tier (and one coming in a week) right now.

Once again, thank you to Wowhead dressing room for helping out because my Wow Model Viewer has issues, including a strong dislike for Pandarens 🙁

Death Knight Tier 10 - Sanctified Scourgelord's Plate

Death Knight

Tier 10 – Sanctified Scourgelord’s Plate

I was torn between this version (blue) and the purple version because both look great. There’s something about this tier that screams Death Knight to me more than any other. I really love the Death Knight starting area set and this one has the similar feel. I just can’t really see Death Knight’s in other colours, and prefer to stick to the cool shades of blue and purple.

Druid Tier 5 - Nordrassil Rainment

Tier 5 – Nordrassil Rainment

This was such a hard choice to make! There are so many gorgeous druid tiers, and even the one’s that aren’t quite so beautiful are still exquisite. I just love the shoulders and head piece of this one though, and combined with the green and brown earthy tones I feel it really captures the feeling of a druid.

Hunter Tier 19 - Eagletalon Battlegear

Tier 19 – Eagletalon Battlegear

I was browsing through the hunter raid tiers from 1-20, trying to decide on one that jumped out and grabbed my attention above all others. It was only when I got to the most recent Tier, 19, and saw this set that I found that special one. I’d not seen this set yet and I love the mesmerising gold and green, as well as the details in the hood and shoulders. It reminds me a lot of my current wallpaper of Alleria Windrunner from Hearthstone.

Tier 5 - Tirisfal Regalia

Tier 5 – Tirisfal Regalia

It was a close call between this one and Tier 18 Raiment of the Arcanic Conclave. I think that it is pure nostalgia with this set, along with the traditional red colouring and details on the robe and hood. It also helps that I love the look of these types of hoods on my Night Elf Mage 😀 This one in particular makes her look so powerful and mysterious.

Monk Tier 20 - Xuen's Battlegear

Tier 20 – Xuen’s Battlegear

Ok, so I totally cheated for this one. I was good with all the others! This set is not out for another week or so when Tomb of Sargeras opens, but just look at it… it’s so pretty! I love the contrasting colours of yellow and purple, and just the whole style of it screams Pandaren monk to me.

Paladin Tier 2 - Judgement Armour

Tier 2 – Judgement Armour

Hands up who guessed this one correctly? I honestly don’t know many people who don’t count this as one of their favourite Paladin tiers, or tiers full stop. There’s just something so powerful about it, and yet, looking at the vibrant colours it shouldn’t work. It should feel too brazen, too overpowering and instead it just works. There’s so much careful detail worked into this design that the more you look at it the more you notice.

Priest Tier 3 - Vestments of Faith

Tier 3 – Vestments of Faith

I’m very fortunate that my main character for many expansions now has been a priest and has had some absolutely gorgeous sets ( for the most part anyway, we won’t talk about the green nipple one …). However, unlike the Druid tiers this choice wasn’t hard. Tier 3 is the top of the list for me and of course, it’s the only one you can’t farm. I’m really glad that it is possible to get it again even if it is from the Black Market Auction house and will eventually cost me an arm and a leg. One day it will be mine! For now, I at least have loads of other gorgeous tier sets I can use to feel the void.

Rogue Tier 9 - VanCleef's Battlegear

Tier 9 – VanCleef’s Battlegear

This was a difficult one for me to pick and not because there were so many I liked. Quite the opposite in fact! I very rarely play my rogue so don’t have much of a feel for her or the class, and aesthetically most rogue sets just don’t appeal to me. This one has a touch of elegance, a beautiful corset with stunning gold details on a lovely blue.

Shaman Tier 6 - Skyshatter Regalia

Tier 6 – Skyshatter Regalia

So, I’ve noticed two things when it comes to Shaman Tiers. There’s an awful lot I don’t like, and most of the ones I do like are blue! This wasn’t an easy choice, and I’m kinda glad I haven’t raided as a shaman (sorry shaman’s!).

Warlock Tier 12 - Balespider's Burning Vestments

Tier 12  – Balespider’s Burning Vestments

I have to admit, Blizzard did a good job with the fire theme for this tier. However, for most sets it just feels so over the top and over done. I like that this one is more subtle, there’s some fire and there’s the spider homage to one of the bosses. The webbing details on all the pieces stands out and the whole set just has a great effect.

Warrior Tier 10 - Sanctified Ymirjar Lord's Battlegear

Tier 10 – Sanctified Ymirjar Lord’s Battlegear

I found it hard to distinguish between the warrior tiers, after a while they all sort of look the same to me – I’m sure plate users will say the same about cloth robes! This one stood out in two ways; the runic details and the helm. There’s just something very unique, and I like the ancient vykrul vibe.

I actually found that easier than I expected. There were a few classes that proved difficult because there were so many I liked, however, in the classes I play less it was either really hard to connect with them or only one or two actually stood out.

How about you? Could you choose just 1 tier for your class? Do you find that certain tiers you prefer over others – for example, I am drawn to tiers 2, 3 and 5 a lot.

jadedlioness: (Default)

Every Tuesday is #TransmogTuesday and I’ll be posting with a new creation. My main is a discipline priest called Kaelea, so I do tend to edge towards cloth transmogs more than anything else. The aim of this project is to push my own boundaries, to get creative and work on some themes and ideas I’d normally not consider. That means I’m open to suggestions! Themes, colours, a transmog set around a particular item? Let me know 🙂

You can see my pre-existing work over at Wowhead where I’ll also be uploaded any and all sets.

This Weeks Sets

My Current Transmog Sets

It’s a super special bumper edition this week to fit in with my WoW Themed posts. You’re not getting just one, but uh.. 12? sets! One per each of my active characters. Sorry hordies, I only have active Alliance characters, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them! Each set is on wowhead, and due to the amount of sets in one post I will just be posting links directly to those sets rather than linking each item as usual. Most are sets I have made up myself, a few are using a full raid or pvp tier because that is my current favourite. As these were made specifically for these characters they also contain a lot of class specific items; if you’d like a non-class specific version let me know in the comments and I’ll see if it’s doable!

Thanks to the WoWhead dressing room for stepping in to help when technical issues couldn’t be avoided!

Anyone who knows me knows I love animals and my fondness for living creatures has transferred to battle pets! I’ve already talked about my favourite pets for battles, so this time I’ll be talking about my favourites in terms of themes and aesthetics! I have 798 unique battle pets, and that’s just the ones I actually own personally. Whittling it down to just 10 was a challenge, and there are plenty more that deserve a spot on this list. I started to put them in a ranking, and yeah, it was just impossible. So here are my top favourite battle pets in no specific order.

You can view my full pet collection over at WarcraftPets.com!

Baby Elderhorn

With it’s big blue eyes this pet is certainly likeable, however, it’s the animation that made me fall in love with it. It’s so adorable and cute when it frolicks that I had to make a gif for you to see!Baby Elderhorn Pet Animation

Battle Pets: Xu-Fu

Xu-Fu, Cub of Xuen

Essentially this pet is just a mini version of the Celestial Xuen from the Mists of Pandaria expansion – and I’m ok with that! All of the Celestials are absolutely stunning, but it’s Xu-Fu that captured my heart. His colours are just so beautiful and he’s a pretty handy battle pet too, so I have a great excuse to look upon his beauty whenever I want!

Battle Pets: Thundering Pandaren Serpent

Thundering Serpent Hatchling

I was fortunate enough to get a nice guild let me join for a few moments to nab this from their guild vendor at the end of Mists of Pandaria. I’m really glad I did because he’s such a sweet and gorgeous looking guy. I couldn’t get his lightning to show up, but you can see it here.

Battle Pets: Sunfur Panda

Sunfur Panda

All the red panda pets are adorable, but it’s the colouring of the Sunfur one that really stands out to me. I just love her cute little markings and the colours of her fur.

Battle Pets: Little Black Ram

Little Black Ram

There is nothing special about this pet at all, apart from I find it so damn adorable! The first time I saw them wondering around outdoors I fell in love.

Battle Pets: Nightsaber Cub

Nightsaber Cub

This little guy is the exception to my pet naming rule (see bottom of this post). Chris bought him for me (he’s a Trading Card pet) at the same time we found out that our first cat together had passed away. We were both absolutely devastated and I can’t remember which of us suggested naming this cub Az, but it was fitting. So this pet is forever dedicated to our crazy wild tabby tom cat, Azreil aka Az.

Battle Pets: Lurking Owl Kitten

Lurking Owl Kitten

Currently Unnamed!

The first thing I said when I saw the Owl Cats was ‘I NEED ONE!’, so imagine how happy I was when I finished the quest chain and got this little dude! I’m really sad that I don’t play Feral on my druid because I love the owl cat form. I just wish we had more colour varieties of this pet.

Battle Pets: Cenarion Hippogrph Hatchling

Cenarion Hatchling

Pretty sure I wrote about this little guy when I was talking about geeky tattoos for a 5FF prompt. I remember the first time I saw a hyppogryph hatchling in Wrath of the Lich King, and I fell head over heels for the cute little babies! I’m so glad there’s a shop version, as I’ve not managed to get hold of the TCG one yet.

Battle Pets: Moonkin HatchlingMoonkin Hatchling

I love moonkins, so how could I not love this ultra cute baby version?! Especially when they dance and fly just like a real moonkin! I’m just totally in love with this pet and wish there were more colours to reflect the other druids now.

Battle Pets: Mini TyraelMini Tyrael

Probably one of (if not the) rarest battle pets you can get, this little guy was in the goody bag for the one-off EU blizzcon (it was called the World Wide Invitational, but it was pretty much blizzcon not just tournaments). He is beautiful, he has an awesome animation when /dance with him and he reminds me of an awesome event I will always feel privileged to have been to. It’s a treasured memory with my fiancé about a year into our relationship 🙂

Bonus fun: I try to name my pets, and all of these (with the exception of the poor unnamed lurking owl kitten) have been given names relating to fandom and mythology. Can you match each of them to a fandom or pantheon?

I’ve been meaning to add a small introduction story to my World of Warcraft characters list and this week’s World of Warcraft theme seemed like an idea time to do it! You’ll notice that some stories are longer than others, especially that of Kaelea who is my main character and therefore, her story is the clearest in my mind.

Credit Notice

All graphics and writing in this blog post are the creative property of me, Heather, and may not be reused in any way. These are the personal stories of my characters, written for entertainment.

Kaelea, Discipline Priest

From a young age Kaelea showed a talent for both light and shadow, and when she came of age she was chosen to study at the Cathederal of Light in Stormwind. As a Stormwind native, she was eager to develop her talents to find a way to help the city she loved. However, despite her early progress it became pretty clear that her abilities only went so far. While she was adept with both shadow and light, that was as far as it went. She could never quite master one nor the other like other novices were doing.

It was only a chance meeting with a grumpy old dwarf, that led Kaelea down a path that would redefine her life; Discipline. There was a growing group of Priests who were much like her, a talent for both shadow and light and yet never reaching a degree of mastery. They had developed the path known as Discipline, a form of study that followed the principle belief that light always casts a shadow. This realisation combined with dedicated training allowed priests to use both light and shadow to serve others. It was  a path that required great strength of will and discipline, and as such Kaelea was a strong candidate for training.

As the years went by Kaelea would grow into a capable young woman, known for championing many causes and never staying still. Gone was the young girl who wanted nothing more than to stay in her home city and help those in need. She had learned through experience and combat that there was bigger things to be done – and that it took a certain type of person to get them done. Kaelea was never meant to be a city healer offering sanctuary and alms to the poor, she was a combat healer and a good one at that. She learned from each experience, gathering knowledge wherever she went and from any new allies she made. As a result she learned how to bend the light to her will, using it to smite her enemies in defence while healing her allies.

Never one to let her achievements go to her head, Kaelea has always believed that she is simply someone who has the skills and the strength needed to fight the battles. She was also never going to be one for sticking by the rules, and tends to follow her head rather than her heart at times. Her natural empathy has caused her to jump into many a fight that wasn’t her own, but it was Garrosh Hellscream’s destruction of Netherguard Keep that struck closest to home. A childhood friend, a one time young love, who had found his calling in the Blasted Lands had lost his life in the attack that devastated the Keep. It was the one time that Kaelea felt truly lost, falling from her path of careful discipline with seething rage. Without the support and care of her friends and lover, Dagan, a Death Knight, she may have lost her way forever.

Now the Legion is back, and Kaelea is still somewhat mystified to find herself a High Priest uniting all the paths of priesthood across the land. The keeper of the tempestuous Light’s Wrath, she wields it with care, precision and an understanding that it’s time to finish the fight with the Legion once and for all.

Aleassa, Balance Druid

Unlike her friends and family, Aleassa had never been certain of her place in Night Elf society. She was not a warrior, she had no relationship with the light, and her skill with a hunter’s bow was appalling. It was only when Malfurion came looking for apprentices to study Druidism that Aleassa felt the call. Nature had always called to her, but not quite the same way as it had for her hunters who held mastery over beasts. No, it was the world around her; the plants and trees, the creatures and the wind that whispered to her as it drifted through the trees.

Time moves differently for a long lived race, and Aleassa’s still considers herself to be a student to this day. Despite her many achievements, she believes that she will always be learning and spent many years dedicating herself to lore and teaching others. She, like many, had lost so many loved ones during the war with the Burning Legion. As Night Elves struggled to come to terms with their new found mortality she found solace in teaching others, helping them to heal and find their way. Yet there was something missing. Aleassa couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more out there for her. While she could shapeshift into the forms of cat and bear, and could heal when needed, none of them felt like her true form.

She would end up roaming, travelling, offering her help and knowledge where she could. While Aleassa was beginning to feel even more helpless and lost, the Goddess Elune never lost sight of the young druid. She would guide her to a group calling themselves the Druids of the Moon, and there, Aleassa would finally find her true form; the Moonkin.

Layla, Vengeance Demon Hunter

Born into a family known for it’s dedication to the Temple of Elune, and never being that way inclined, Layla was never destined to have an easy time. Though she did her best to please her family, and to fit in with their grand history of serving Elune she joined the Temple Guard. During the War of the Ancients Layla was left alone and heartbroken as she watched her family fall at the hands of the Legion, their precious light and Goddess abandoning them to painful deaths. When word reached her that Illidan Stormrage was seeking followers and offering a way to defeat the Legion, Layla was quick to desert her duties and find him.

Alongside many other hopefuls, Layla underwent the gruelling training and rituals to become a Demon Hunter. She sacrificed everything she had, and more, for the power to avenge her family and her people. With demon blood coursing through her veins she felt power like never before, and vowed that she would never give in to her inner demon. Returning triumph with her fellow demon hunters, Layla wound find herself facing The Wardens and Thousands of years of imprisonment in the Vault of the Wardens.

Now once again free, Layla is appalled to see that the Legion is once again destroying the world she vowed to fight for when she became a demon hunter. She has thrown herself head first into the battle, ready to do whatever needs doing to avenge her family once and for all.

Thaelynn, Fire Mage

A relatively young Night Elf, Thaelynn was born to a family of great Highborne mages that had been practising long before the War of the Ancients. The events of the war and the treachery of some of the Highborne led her family to vanish into hiding. It would be several generations later that Thaelynn would be born, unknowing of her family’s past and powerful heritage with the arcane. While the rest of her family led simple lives deep in the forests of Ashenvale, Thaelynn always had a fascination with, well, everything. She had to know how everything worked, why everything was that way and not another way. As a child she got under many feet and pestered many adults with questions. The elder ones were happy to tell her stories, including of times long past filled with battles and magic.

Most of the village children grew up, forgot the stories and dreamed of mundane things like getting the days chores done. Thaelynn never forgot, and maybe it was her constant wishing for magic to be real that lit the flame of magic inside her. Or maybe it was just long forgotten magic being rekindled. It started small at first; a puff of smoke, hands becoming warm during the cold winter nights. Enough that the teenager thought she was imagining it at first. It wasn’t long before something caught on fire, alerting her parents to what was happening to their daughter.

Since the War of the Ancients night elves had avoided magic, forbidding anyone to study it. Fire was a destructive force, most certainly not druidic or holy in nature. Frantically her parents forbid her from practising her powers, and told her to ignore them, they would just go away if she didn’t give into them. The more she tried, the harder it got, and the more stressed Thaelynn got the worse her control became. Someone was watching out for the young night elf though, and contacted an old former-highborne mage who was living the rest of their life out in solitude. The mage refused to train Thaelynn, not wishing to draw attention to herself or to be responsible for reintroducing magic to the kaldorei. However, after witnessing the violent nature of her growing powers, the elder mage helped Thaelynn gain control of her abilities.

Life went smoothly for the young night elf after that, with her life settling into the same normal uneventful rhythm of her siblings – much to her parents relief. Then came the news that Mordent Evenshade had approached the High Priestess, and the highborne had been accepted back into night elf society. It was news that set many tongues wagging, especially when it became known that they were to train new adepts in the ways of magic and the arcane. For years Thaelynn had lived as a ghost, floating from one errand to another, keeping her powers locked away inside herself and never being allowed to explore her true self. She had never looked for love, never wanted to start a family of her own like her brothers and sisters. When the news reached her something snapped and she left her home with a hastily written note to her family.

For some time now Thaelynn has been dedicating her time to the study of magic and the arcane, making up for all the lost time and finally letting her power free. She is well on her way to becoming one of the youngest Archmagi of the new generation of kaldorei magi.

Frostya, Frost Death Night

The former druid, Lothiriel, was one of the many killed fighting alongside the Argent Crusade and raised to become one of the legendary death knights. After gaining her freedom from the Lich King’s sway, Frostya was one of those left staggered by the horrors she had committed. After being one with life and nature, to one with death, she did not know how to live being completely cut off from nature. She left the rest of the death knights and headed for the forests of Ashenvale, becoming a recluse and determined not to use her powers of death.

It was only a chance meeting with a young night elf and a group of the Scarlet Crusade that led to Lothiriel realising she could still do good as a death knight. As Deathwing broke free from the earth, setting off the Cataclysm, Lothiriel felt it. For the first time since her death she could feel the world around her. While she would never gain the strength of her old connection as a druid, it was enough of a tether to reality to bring her back from the brink. Rejoining the Knights of the Ebon Blade, she took the name Frostya and set about helping a world that had been torn apart.

You can read the full story of Lothiriel’s run in with the Scarlet Crusade here.

Born to a family of warriors known for their tempers, Tempestia is aptly named despite looking as cute as a button. It is an image she has worked hard to shatter, but with age came a realisation; she could use her looks to her advantage. As a result she fell in with a group of mercenaries and began to use her innocent looks to her advantage. Now she works as a freelancer, specialising in under cover work and still gets a thrill from pulling the wool over people’s eyes.

The way of the monk called to Takeko in her youth, and she had dedicated herself to becoming an adept of all paths. While others prefer to specialise in one particular skill set, Takeko prefers to have on hand all the skills she needs to be most effective in helping those in need. She has a big heart and can always be found helping someone, especially lost causes. To her, no one or anything is a true lost cause and her stubbornness has been known to prevail over difficult odds.

Roisin spent so much time locked away in Gilneas with the rest of the people that she has become an errant explorer, with an almost unsustainable thirst for knowledge and power. As a warlock she studied everything she could while in Gilneas and often got frustrated at the the lack of variety. Now Roisin divides her time between her own pursuits, and occasionally lending a helping hand in whatever new crisis is taking place. Of course, she makes sure it’s in her best interests before proceeding.

Melantha had a tragic start in life, losing her family to the scourge at a young age and becoming an orphan. The same event awakened her connection to the light, and as an orphan in Stormwind she flourished under the tutelage of the Cathederal of Light. Forever grateful to those who saved her and gave her a home, she is loyal to the Light and has fought with the Argent Dawn and later the Argent Crusade.

The eldest of three sisters, Arasse has always felt the weight of being the first born. Her fascination and connection with animals was kindled by her family’s ram rearing farm, however, unlike her middle sister it was not enough for her. She wanted to know more, see more, learn all about the wonderful and wild creatures of the world. Eventually she left to do so, and has not returned home since. She has many wild adventures, taming creatures of all shapes and sizes and maybe, it’s time for this wild girl to settle down and do something important with her skills.

The middle sister, Thistalee never understood her elder sister, Arasse’s, desire to know more. She was perfectly content learning about rams, looking after them and helping her parents breed the best mounts you could buy. All set to have a quiet life and take over the family business, Thistalee and her family could never have predicted the events of the Cataclysm that tore Azeroth a part. Nor, would they foresee what it would mean for their peaceful daughter. The elements were in chaos, and it awoke a part of Thistalee that she had never known. She could suddenly hear their cries, and almost went insane because of it. Thankfully, the changes in Dwarf society meant that each clan was sharing it’s knowledge and she soon learned the ways of the Shaman.

The youngest sister of Arasse and Thistalee, Ceylaina is completely different to her elder sisters. The baby of the family, she was most certainly spoiled – after all, her family had Thistalee to take over the family business – and as a result Ceylaina grew up to know nothing of rams. Instead she was allowed to do whatever she wanted, dabbling in a bit of everything as she followed her whims. Unsurprisingly she fell in with the wrong crowd and ran away with them. Developing a talent for stealth, thievery and weapons, Ceylaina lives by her own honour code. She’s neither good, nor bad, just practical.

This young Draenei has been inspired by the tales of the great heroes, and is still trying to carve her way in the world. A talent for the light, she wields the light with purpose but has yet to settle of her final path. Whether she finds that she is best at defending the weak, healing the sick or striking down the wicked in retribution remains to be seen.

Well, that was fun and long overdue! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my characters as much as I enjoyed writing about them!

Whether you’re a gamer, a writer or a roleplayer, names can be an important part of your character creation. Over the years as I’ve graduated from roleplayer to gamer and then onto writer I’ve grown a collection of go to generators and resources for finding names. Here are some of my favourite ones!

Dog Names by Low Chen Australia

Dog Names by Low Chen Australia

Yep, that says dog names, you’re not mistaken. It has an absolutely amazing list of different names, from characters, to mythology to countries. It has so much variety that it makes it great for everything you might need a name for!

Behind the Name

Behind the Name

I love this site and it’s sister site for surnames because of it’s diversity and how easy it is to search or narrow down categories. It has a great selection and has resulted in many of my character’s names over the years!

God Checker.com

God Checker

I absolutely adore this site and use it all the time for naming my World of Warcraft battle pets. It has all the pantheons you can think of and then some – and unlike most mythological lists it doesn’t just list the main/popular deities. It lists them all, big or small, including spirits and other mythological creatures.

Fantasy Name Generators

Fantasy Name Generators

This has been my go to site for Star Wars and World of Warcraft names for years, and it has grown into a huge site with tonnes of generators. There’s pretty much every video game you can imagine, DnD, pop culture, lists of creature names and even one for weapons! This is a must have bookmark for any gamer.

Elvish Names List

Elvish Names List

As a part of Arwen-Undomiel.com, this section of the site has a list of male and female English names translated into Elvish. It’s a great way to come up with new character names, especially for fantasy stories and games. Mine, Heather, is Lothiriel 🙂

I hope you’ve enjoyed this list and found some useful resources! Do you use name generators? Have any to share? Let me know!

Grabbing one that I missed in May for this week as it’s something I feel pretty strongly about! Cancelled shows is something that really gets me going. As a Brit, I’ve tuned into a new US show and fell in love with it – only to find out half way through that it’s been cancelled. It’s gotten to the point now where I check new shows for cancellation if only 1 season is listed on IMDB. It’s only really been in the last decade that fantasy and supernatural TV Shows have become popular and before that you could guarantee that any geeky TV Show that came about was likely to be cancelled ASAP. I distinctly remember the excitement of hearing about Supernatural when it first came out, and hoping like hell it didn’t get cancelled.

There’s a lot of shows that have ended, that I will always miss, however, this list is reserved for those I feel never really got a shot, had more to tell or left loads of unanswered questions.

Shows I'd like to un-cancel - Primeval: New World

Primeval: New World

… follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the

appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures.

I was sad to see the original Primeval go, so when it was announced that there was a new one in a new country, with all new characters and Andrew Lee Potts’ character would be popping up – yeah, I was super hyped. I loved Primeval: New World and the characters; the cast was fantastic! But I’ve still not finished the final two episodes. It’s a typical case of ‘I don’t want it to end’ which seems to plague me when it comes to the final episodes and seasons of some shows. I had so many unanswered questions already, and from my experience watching the original Primeval I know the season finale is just going to make me scream with the frustration of never knowing!

Shows I'd like to un-cancel - The Finder

The Finder

An Iraq war vet suffers a brain injury that triggers the ability to see connections

between seemingly unrelated events, objects or people.

This is the only one of this list where I wish I could un-cancel it, but I totally understand why it was cancelled. A spin off from Bones, The Finder had it’s back door pilot in season 6 of Bones. Sadly after filming the first season Michael Clarke Duncan, passed away unexpectedly. He played one of the main characters and was such a big part of the show that no one involved could bare to carry on without him.

Shows I'd like to un-cancel - Marvel's Agent Carter

Marvel’s Agent Carter

In 1946, Peggy Carter is relegated to secretarial duties in the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR).

When Howard Stark is accused of treason, he secretly recruits Peggy to clear

his name with the help of his butler, Edwin Jarvis.

I’m going to be pissed about this one for a long time to come, and like Primeval, I haven’t been able to finish Agent Carter Season 2 yet. I don’t want it to be over. Peggy is fabulous character who deserved much more screen time than she got. At least we got two seasons; some shows have had far worse odds than that.

Shows I'd like to un-cancel - Shows to Uncancel - Constantine

A man struggling with his faith who is haunted by the sins of his past is suddenly

thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.

This is probably one of the shows on this list I’m most bitter about. Technically it was sort of un-cancelled and became an animated show with Matt Ryan voicing the character and made by the same people. But let’s be honest; it’s not the same. I’ve not watched the animated show yet, and probably will check it out eventually but I much prefer live action. Sure the show had some bad points, I got a bit lost with the plot at times, and it was a bit slow going. That didn’t stop it still being awesome, and needing answers to things that happened in the finale. I loved Matt Ryan as Constantine, and have loved him as an actor since I saw him in Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour. The crossover with Arrow was bitter-sweet and a highlight of that season for me. I really wish they had given it more of a chance 🙁

Shows I'd like to un-cancel - BBC: Strange

A defrocked priest’s mission to destroy demons.

And the final one on this list is a fairly unknown British show that I will probably be royally pissed about for a long time. Back in the day when supernatural was far away from being a go to genre for TV shows, Strange popped up with a pilot about demons. The pilot was quite frankly, epic. Mysterious, intrigue, mythology and I was so glad when it got picked up for a full season. And then the BBC messed it up. Not the show; the whole season was great like the pilot. No, there mistake was very simple; they never re-showed the pilot. Many months later when the season began, they decided it would be a great idea to skip the first episode (the pilot) and go straight to episode 2. As you would expect this left everyone extremely confused because all the back-story and how the characters came together was in the pilot. It totally flopped despite how much promise it had because no one had a clue what was going on.

What about you? Which shows do you wish had never been cancelled? Are they 1-2 season wonders or are they longer running shows you just really miss?
